Position Summary:
The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and running the day-to-day operations of the Aquatics Department. This includes, but is not limited to, programming, staffing, billing, maintaining records, communicating with internal and external customers and vendors, scheduling, and ensuring proper pool maintenance in compliance with all JCC insurance and Department of Health safety standards and procedures. The Aquatics Coordinator is required to provide swim instruction and lifeguarding as necessary. This position is supervised by the Aquatics Director.
Staff Management
- Lead, supervise and develop staff, including but not limited to hiring, training, evaluating, developing, scheduling aquatics staff.
- Maintain, prepare and complete payroll for Aquatics staff.
- Develop a strong sense of team and provide staff support.
- Ensure staff certifications and trainings are current.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of regular in-service trainings.
- Help create safety procedures and protocols.
- Ensure that first responder staff complete thorough incident report forms in a timely manner, signs off on them, and turns them into the Managing Director.
Pool Safety and Operations
- Monitor daily pool operations and adhere to state, local and JCC health and safety regulations.
- Maintain pool chemistry and concerns; communicate with vendors and necessary parties within the agency as needed.
Programming
- Assist in program development: including but not limited to instructional programming, camp pool usage, swim team, Aqua fitness classes, American Red Cross Classes registration procedures, curriculum planning, safety procedures and customer service.
- Assist in the creation and maintaining a tracking system for participation and attendance.
- Responsible for recruiting and training lifeguards and water safety instructors and making sure they retain their American Red Cross Certifications.
- Responsible for effective space usage of facility and creating balance between participant programs and revenue-based programs
- Prepare, maintain and share pool schedules and staff scheduling on a regular basis.
- Work with Aquatics Director to develop policies and pricing.
- Act as the on-duty lifeguard, coach or instructor to assist staff and ensure programming and services are provided
Other Essential Responsibilities
- Assist with campus wide special events
- Stay up-to-date on Aquatics trends; research local competition, and national colleagues to ensure a high standard of excellence and appropriate price points.
- Communicate with participants and participants’ legal guardians on a regular basis to provide updates, feedback and aquatics-related information to them.
- Identify opportunities for community partnership and build potential sources of revenue.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Managing Director
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma;
- 3-5 years’ experience in water safety and swim instruction;
- The following certifications are required: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer is required;
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
Position requires occasional internal interaction with employees, parents, supervisors, officers and board members, sponsors, donors, other agency personnel and community members. Responsible for maintaining positive, courteous and professional relationships with families and children enrolled in the youth and camp programs, all JCC staff, professional staff from other related agencies and the greater community.
SUPERVISES: Lifeguards and instructors as needed in the absence of the Director of Aquatics.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds), bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, and sitting;
- Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 75 lbs.), bending stooping, stretching, squatting and sitting;
- Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of swimmers;
- Must have the visual and auditory ability to keep track of multiple swimmers and to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to pool activities;
- Talking and hearing is essential for communication between swimmers and staff;
- Frequent exposure to outside elements (i.e. sun exposure, heat, humidity, rain)
- Noise level can be quiet to moderate with moderate to loud levels during peak season.'
