Kennel Assistant/Cleaning Services

Position Summary:

Responsible for the basic care, kenneling and feeding of animals at Mandeville Canine Academy. Assists in caring for pets, ensuring treatment is in line with safety standards. Cleaning kennel and facility after hours. MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE.

Key Responsibilities:

• Feeds, walks, exercises, and bathes dogs as needed in our care.
• Engage in play activities with dogs, including walks, fetch, social play groups, etc.
• Cleans up after dogs both inside the facility and outside, and cleans dog runs and kennels as needed; changes food/water bowls.
• Cleans equipment and facilities using chemicals and supplies; understands the importance of safety of use of chemicals in our facility.
• Maintains the facility as a whole by performing tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping/mopping floors, wiping counters, taking out trash, and checking equipment and supplies, washing and drying towels, etc.
• Ensures that personal property (toys, treats, blankets, leashes) are stored in the proper area and labeled appropriately.
• Records information such as feeding/medication schedules, appearance, behavior of animals that are boarded.
• Assists other staff members on occasion with such tasks as helping restrain an animal, helping clients with their pets, etc.
• Assists with all operational aspects of the kennel independently, using good time management skills.
• Assists with organizing and inventory.

Other Duties:

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent and six months of experience working in a kennel. Work experience can be paid or non-paid (voluntary hours). Minimum age 18 years.

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of basic animal care and behavior.
• Knowledge of vaccinations.
• Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
• Ability to teach other staff members kennel skills
• Ability to maintain constant vigilance regarding open doorways that could allow pets to escape from the facility.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to maintain confidence around pets.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
• Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
• Ability to follow all safety procedures.
• Ability to follow all animal health guidelines.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to unpleasant odors and noises; possible exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes. Regularly stand for extended periods. Frequently walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and lift or move up to 70 pounds. Work is normally performed inside and outside. Ability to work weekends and holidays required.
