Description of Services
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is seeking the services of two (2) Software Developer II professionals to support the agency's IT-Statewide Education Data System (IT-SEDS) division. The selected candidates must meet the general qualifications of a Software Developer II in Applications/Software Development, as outlined in this document.
All work products resulting from this engagement shall be considered "works made for hire" and will remain the property of the Texas Education Agency. Potential vendors and their candidates may be required to undergo and satisfy criminal background checks as per Texas law. TEA will not be responsible for any fees associated with interviews or discussions during the candidate selection process.
The Senior SSIS Developer will be responsible for advanced analysis and development tasks, including the migration of IBM DataStage jobs to SSIS. The role requires expertise in integrating SQL-based databases (Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL) with various systems and applications, as well as optimizing ETL processes. The developer will also be expected to contribute to problem-solving, provide technical leadership, and regularly communicate project updates. Additionally, the role demands a strong understanding of data aggregation and analysis using ETL tools.
The selected candidates will work within a defined software development life cycle (SDLC) process, utilizing an Agile-like methodology to complete code changes for scheduled releases. This role involves collaboration with multiple agency stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of reports that support Texas's 1,200 school districts.
Candidates must have prior experience working with state clients and in the Healthcare sector.
Must have a bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
II. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the conversion of IBM DataStage jobs to SSIS.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain ETL processes for data integration.
- Work with SQL-based relational databases, including Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL.
- Troubleshoot ETL issues and optimize performance.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation.
- Conduct development and unit testing.
- Actively participate in Agile development processes.
- Provide thought leadership and recommendations for best practices in ETL development.
III. Candidate Skills and Qualifications
- Seven (7) years of experience in SSIS and ETL processes.
- Seven (7) years of proficiency in SQL and relational databases, including Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL.
- Seven (7) years of experience with various ETL tools, data integration, and data mapping.
- Seven (7) years of experience troubleshooting ETL issues and optimizing performance.
- Seven (7) years of development and unit testing experience.
- Seven (7) years of experience working in Agile development methodologies.
- Five (5) years of experience with PowerShell or similar scripting languages.
- Five (5) years of experience with IBM DataStage.
