Job Summary:
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking an experienced Database Administrator 3 to support application operations, provide database management expertise, and maintain data processing continuity for critical agency services. The candidate will work in a hybrid environment, offering both onsite and remote flexibility, and will support both existing database structures and the development of new solutions as required.
All deliverables and work products resulting from this engagement will be considered "works made for hire and will become the property of DPS.
Candidates must have prior experience working with state clients and with same department experience.
Must have a bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze application functions and ensure consistent data processing to support ongoing agency operations.
- Identify and resolve data-related issues; implement corrections to maintain system functionality.
- Edit or enhance existing applications and participate in developing new solutions where necessary.
- Create or update support documentation to define both new and existing database/application processes.
- Provide general database administration support for DB2 environments across AIX, Unix, and Linux platforms.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to troubleshoot issues and support mission-critical services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Extensive experience (at least eight years) working with DB2 databases in complex environments.
- At least three years of experience working on AIX, Unix, or Linux platforms.
- At least three years of hands-on shell programming/scripting experience.
- Preferred: Five years or more of experience working with DB2 on Z/OS mainframe environments.
Additional Requirements:
- Candidate must successfully pass a criminal background check as required by Texas law.
- No fees will be paid for candidate interviews or related discussions.
- Candidate is expected to report onsite one day per month; all other work may be performed remotely.
- Overtime or work beyond regular hours must be pre-approved by DPS.
- Pre-approved travel expenses must comply with State of Texas guidelines, including original receipts.
