Job Summary: Caretaker For Dressage Horse Farm
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced caretaker to live on-site at our farm and provide exceptional care for my 3 compedition dressage horses and occasional client horses. This individual will be responsible for the daily care of the horses and property on designated days, ensuring the horses health, safety, and well being, and maintaining open communication regarding farm needs and issues. The position requires approximately 8 hours per week, covering Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and night checks every night of the week, including holidays as needed.
The ideal candidate must have a strong background in horse care, be highly responsible, and be comfortable living alone on the farm. Excellent communication skills, trustworthiness, and the ability to work collaboratively with others are essential. This position requires someone with a history of long-term employment and a genuine commitment to providing outstanding care for horses.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean stalls and ensure bedding is fresh and horses are fed.
- Turnout of horses and bringing in horses safely.
- Administer medications as prescribed.
- Blanketing horses appropriately based on weather conditions.
- Perform night checks every evening to ensure horses’ safety and well being.
- Be able to assess if we are not available to contact a veterinarIan in case of emergency.
- Monitor the farm to ensure everything is in working order and report any issues promptly.
- Notify the owner when supplies (grain, hay, supplements, shavings) are needed to be reordered.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in workspaces (i.e. Barn, feed room and tack room)
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations across all areas of the farm.
Additional Details
- On site housing will be provided. That could be a free trailer or a cottage to rent.
- This is a part time role requiring approximately 8 hours per week.
- Holidays and night checks are part of the responsiblility. Flexibility also is required because you are working with horses
