What are the responsibilities and job description for the Applications Lab Manager - Fragrances position at MANE?

We have a new and immediate opening to hire an Applications Lab Manager. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for project management in the Applications Lab which includes distribution of work among team members. Tracks projects and progress of projects within the lab, with a focus on time management and quality of work. In addition, the Manager is responsible for conducting raw materials studies as well as troubleshooting solubility and performance issues for products. For Home Care, this includes passive and electric air fresheners, candles, laundry products and surface cleaners. For Personal Care, this includes shower gels, body lotions/creams, soaps, antiperspirants/deodorants, bath salts and alcohol solutions. This is a working Manager who has Group Leader responsibilities as well.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project / Lab Operations:
- Proofreads all requests in GPMS and ensures the request is accurate and all necessary information is present to initiate sampling
- Follows the requests from time of entry to completion
- Check deadlines and stay in contact at a high level of involvement with evaluation/perfumery/sales
- Handle special tasks and projects as requested to meet company objectives
- Responsible for ensuring quality work is being carried out and all tasks are being met for assigned customers.
- Interacts with:
- All internal departments, Sales, Evaluation, CI
Technical /Process:
- Initial Evaluation and inspection of bases including odor, physical and aesthetic appearance
- Analyzes all test data and issues reports for non-conforming bases
- Provide technical assistance with guidance from Director to optimize fragrance performance in final product ensuring fragrance is soluble and not disruptive of aesthetic attributes such as clarity and initial viscosity
- Responsible for creating color and hydroalcoholic formulas with cost consideration for colored oil requests and entering into the business system.
- Utilization of instrumentation such as pH meter, Viscometer, Flashpoint tester as needed.
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvement and efficiencies within the laboratory
Documentation and Training:
- Train all new personnel to ensure that procedures are being followed
- Establish re-training program annually or as needed
- Responsible for ensuring overall cleanliness and maintenance of the Applications Lab, base and package stock rooms
- Responsible for keeping a neat and well recorded lab notebook
- Responsible for keeping a well-stocked laboratory for daily work
- Maintains safe and orderly laboratory

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- College degree required. Chemistry preferred
- 7-10 years in fragrance, personal care, or household product company preferably in a technical capacity.
- Technical understanding of fragrance chemistry specifically with bases
- Proficient in color matching for all applications
- Able to multi-task and manage multiple projects concurrently

- Strong written and oral skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Computer skills – Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint
