Job Description
The Meat Cutter is responsible for keeping store meat cases stocked and clean during business hours. They are required to assist customers as needed and maintain a friendly and energetic demeanor.
Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the various types and seasonality of different meat products, equipment usage, and backroom operations; providing meat products to members by processing meat according to specifications (for example, cutting, slicing, grinding, and wrapping meat products); ensuring compliance with food safety standards, sanitation guidelines, and inventory management; operating, maintaining, and sanitizing equipment.
This position performs meat cutting and preparation, meat stocking and rotation, and provide customer service and department cleaning duties. The primary emphasis for this position is to meet daily production needs and quality standards in meat cutting and preparation. Primary learning challenge is learning retail cutting techniques for all meat cuts, proficiency with the saw, and merchandising techniques. This position requires good judgement and decision making as well as social skills. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Performs meat cutting and preparation.
- Stocks meat cases including presentation of product, facing, filling, and organization of all product items.
- Responds positively to customer’s inquiries and assists customers with purchases, information and product selection while working the meat counter including selling and cross selling of products.
- Receives, inspects, and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
- Cuts, trays, and packages all of the required meat and products required for the day.
- Maintains the organization, stacking, and rotating of all meat products in the cooler and freezer.
- Sustains a high level of product knowledge and product preparation.
- Stay up to date with new products/services.
- Monitors the rotation of all meat products paying particular attention to expired stock.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Previous meat cutting experience.
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job.
- Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends.
- Knowledge of inventory stocking procedures.
- Familiarity with consumer behavior principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to the GMP program requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of building trusting relationships.
- Must have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Preferred Experience:
- Safety training.
- Safe Quality Food (SQF) training.
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) training.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the use of all parts of the body. This includes activities such as (but not limited to) walking, lifting, bending, stooping, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, twisting, and turning. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, elbows, hands, and fingers are required. It requires the ability to lift to 30 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally up to 60 lbs. Lastly, this position requires the ability to stand for the entirety of the shift (minus break/rest periods).
