TRANSPORTATION DISPATCHER

Position Purpose:

Under immediate supervision, the Dispatcher schedules and dispatches grocery delivery vehicles on a pre-set route for conveyance of groceries at various customer locations. The Dispatcher also monitors compliance with company policies and federal and state regulations. The job interfaces frequently with drivers, peers, and customer managers.

Key Job Activities:

1. Dispatch customers delivery trucks to appropriate locations, according to customer requests, specifications, or needs.
2. Monitor truck locations and utilization in order to coordinate additional service and schedules. Update routes to include reroute scheduled visits, and dispatch drivers for extra or missed pick-ups, based on daily communication.
3. Communicate with customers stores to obtain or relay work and schedule details. Inform customer management team when complex type of issues needs be escalated.
Confer with customer stores to address questions and problems. Troubleshoot and resolve potential problems within prescribed guidelines.
4. Perform delivery quality control – review delivery orders to ensure all required data is available, identify missing information.
5. Resolve, report, and escalate, as appropriate, issues, accidents or injuries, safety concerns, vehicle condition concerns.
6. Conduct daily driver debrief on schedules and reschedules, traffic, or weather conditions using a standard operating procedures (SOPs) - review assignment completion, confirm completion and submission of required forms and documentation.
7. Review Drivers’ data submitted via an electronic logbook to ensure compliance with DOT regulations for hours of service and other compliance requirements, verify information and notify Transportation Supervisor or Manager of any violations
8. Keep track of vehicle inventory based on repairs and maintenance needed.
9. Resolve/escalate issues related to mobile ELD units.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Description

We are looking for a 3rd Shift Dispatcher to join the team at our grocery distribution center in Freetown, MA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Scheduling and dispatching work to various employees and departments throughout the day.
• Work in conjunction with other departments to resolve customer disputes.
• Analyzing and resolving customer inquiries for missed pick-ups, late deliveries and driver accidents and incidents.
• Assisting driver(s) when a pick up or delivery is in question before servicing.
• Demonstrate effective use of software applications, at a minimum MS Word and Excel proficient.
• Delivers services to customers in a manner that promotes goodwill. Interacts with customers daily.
• Work in a fast paced, cooperative, high call volume environment.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred .
• 2 years of Dispatcher experience in a transportation or logistics atmosphere preferred .
• Excellent organization and communication skills, both orally and written.
