Road Service Technician

Position Summary

Road Service Technicians provide repairs and maintenance tasks for customers and diagnose errors or technical problems that arise during their visit. They then determine what solution will be most effective in fixing it with minimal downtime on equipment. They are also responsible for a company-owned truck and will be required to maintain the vehicle and parts, equipment, and inventory it contains.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide roadside assistance in a safe, professional, and timely manner, free of accident, injury, or damage.
  • Emergency roadside repair on vehicles due to breakdown, malfunction, and tire failure.
  • Arrange a tow for the customer when repair cannot be completed on roadside.
  • Keep accurate records of time and material used during services for billing.
  • Ensure quality customer service through professionalism, timely response, courtesy, and accuracy of repair.
  • Perform diagnostic and operating tests prior to repairs and/or replacements.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of, and comply with OSHA safety laws, rules and regulations in the performance of duties. Ensure no harm to oneself and/or to others.
  • Wear proper PPE (personal proactive equipment), use tire cages. Follow all other safety policies and procedures.
  • Timely complete all required paperwork associated with assigned duties, including complete electronic invoicing and communicating with dispatchers, customer signatures, payments at time of service, photographs, etc. as directed.
  • Assist with towing needs as directed including wrecks, recoveries, and transloads.
  • Assist with repair shop needs as directed including repairs, replacements, and maintenance.
  • Assist with transport heavy haul needs including repairs, replacements, and maintenance of trucks, trailers, and dolly swapping or stacking (may include use of forklift).
  • Maintain a safe, clean, neat, and orderly truck, inside and outside.
  • Must adhere to a flexible work schedule that includes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Job responsibilities require coordination with dispatchers, management, and administrative staff.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and conferences as required.
  • Promptly and professionally address customer needs to ensure their satisfaction. Customer satisfaction is of utmost importance.
  • Promote the Company’s mission and values at all times with staff and customers.
  • Predictable and regular attendance is required.
  • Performs other site and position specific duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Must be over the age of 18
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record with no major moving violations in the last 3 years
  • Experience in many different areas of trailer repair. Welding and/or tire experience is a plus
  • Experience working on diesel or industrial equipment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work within timeframe of standard policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality related to sensitive company and employee information

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Physical requirements necessary include constant standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, with infrequent opportunities to sit. Wearing steel or composite toe shoes or boots during work hours are a requirement of this position. Ability to work in wet or humid conditions as well as extreme cold or heat. Occasionally may be required to perform work in the evenings or on weekends.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
