TITLE: Early Childhood Assistant Teacher

Job Brief:

  • To support the lead teacher in providing preschool students with optimal learning opportunities in all areas of development. We are looking for people who enjoy being part of a school community and can implement educational programs for students.

Location: Eugene Field Early Learning Center.

Salary:

  • $12.00 - $15.00/an hour.

Hours Per Day:

  • Early Learning: 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Times may vary depending on the building assignment
  • Flexible hours depending on availability
  • Average workday = 8 hours

Days Per Year:

  • Positions available during the regular school year (10 month)
  • Options for summer employment

Qualifications:

  • Child Development Associates credential (minimum), AA, AAS, or BA in Early Childhood or Child Development.
  • CPR and First Aid certificates are highly recommended.
  • Childcare Experience (Preferred)
  • All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

Reports To: Principal/Teacher

Job Duties:

  • Supports the lead teacher in maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Assists the lead teacher in supporting social/emotional growth of students through modeling, role playing, and guiding students to solve problems.
  • Guides students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior in an age-appropriate manner. Misbehavior is treated as learning opportunities, rather than focused solely on discipline.
  • Works with individual students, or small groups of students, to provide literacy, math, or social/emotional interventions, as determined necessary by the lead teacher.
  • Encourages oral communication by modeling fluent reading, listening to students read, and encouraging students to have conversation amongst themselves and with adults.
  • Engages with students in indoor play and enhances the play experience through the use of open-ended and higher-level thinking questions.
  • Assists the lead teacher in the development of gross motor skills of students through intentional interactions and play experiences during outdoor play.
  • Promotes healthy eating and health and wellness practices by assisting students in washing their hands before meals, setting out meals, and discussing the nutritional aspect of each meal, while encouraging children to engage in conversation with one another.
  • Demonstrates instructional and interpersonal strategies and techniques that are responsive to the cultural, ethnic, economic, and linguistic differences of students.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of the lead teacher in the event of absence due to illness or personal leave, as well as days when he/she has other contractual obligations.
  • Assists the lead teacher in evaluating student progress on a continuing basis and reports at designated times.
  • Helps the lead teacher with the preparation of materials and interventions for individual students during designated times of day (rest time).
  • Insures accurate and frequent communication with families in line with the desires of the lead teacher and building administration.
  • Attends and participates in on-going professional development and faculty meetings.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher or building administration.
