Job Description
Manhattanville University is seeking an Assistant Provost for Institutional Effectiveness. Reporting to the Provost, the Assistant Provost will champion data-informed decision-making, institutional planning, and assessment. This role provides leadership in institutional assessment, institutional research, strategic planning and plan implementation, and compliance. The Assistant Provost serves as institutional Accreditation Liaison Officer with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The Assistant Provost oversees the office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment which supports planning and provides an understanding of the quality of education at Manhattanville through data, research, and reporting. The Assistant Provost should be adept at using data to tell narrative and visual stories, promoting a culture that relies upon data to assess the effectiveness of programs, services, processes, and progress towards strategic goals. The Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment is the main source of official statistical and research data for the university and external agencies; the Assistant Provost is responsible for overseeing the reporting of institutional data to the NYSED, the federal government, and other agencies.
Essential Functions
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises staff in the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness.
Conducts annual evaluations and goal setting for direct reports.
Institutional Assessment
Directs operations for research, review, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of data on institutional effectiveness and student success.
Collaborates with staff to develop and implement assessment plans for non-academic divisions and departments.
Supports development and implementation of assessment plans for academic areas.
Aligns assessment activities with institutional goals.
Ensures adherence to timelines for submitting plans and results.
Communicates assessment results and insights to stakeholders.
Uses assessment findings to identify areas for improvement and supports action plan development.
Promotes continuous improvement and data-informed decision-making.
Convene the Institutional Effectiveness Committee, directing the review of institutional assessment processes, data collection and analysis, and helping areas to identify how to "close the loop."
Works as directed to determine the best use of institutional research tools and methodologies to support student success.
Stays informed on local and national higher education trends and conversations, anticipating questions and implications for the community.
Accreditation Liaison Officer
Serves as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) between the institution and accrediting bodies.
Coordinates and oversees all accreditation activities, including self-studies, interim reports, and site visits.
Ensures compliance with accreditation standards and requirements.
Develops and implements plans to address accreditation review recommendations.
Keeps current with accreditation standards and best practices.
Trains and supports faculty and staff on accreditation processes.
Prepares and submits required documentation promptly.
Supports accreditation processes for the University, Schools, and individual programs.
Institutional Research
Oversees the University's external reporting, internal reporting, and data analysis in support of institutional assessment, planning, and decision-making.
Oversees the preparation of responses to internal and external queries such as salary surveys, employment statistics, and enrollment projections.
Utilize knowledge of how institutional data are used in university ranking organizations to inform data collection and leverage institutional data to improve market position.
Oversees data requests, analysis, and reports to enhance data-informed decision-making.
Ensures the application of advanced institutional research methodologies and systems.
Participates in the annual planning and budgeting process contributing data and enrollment projections.
Addresses data needs across the campus community.
Assists stakeholders in developing and refining research questions.
Oversee the University's external reporting, internal reporting, and analysis in support of institutional assessment, planning, and decision-making. Prepare institutional responses to internal and/or external queries such as salary surveys, employment statistics, enrollment statistics, and projections.
Oversees the design of instruments and collection of quantitative and qualitative data through surveys, questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups.
Analyzes data using applied research methods for decision-making.
Writes and presents data-rich reports for decision-makers.
With the support of IT, develops dashboards and visualizes data analysis results
Recommends an institution-wide data strategy.
Fosters a culture of data literacy and fluency.
Trains campus constituents in data use, access tools, and assessment.
Connects internal and external data producers and users for decision-making.
Convenes the Data Governance Committee to maintain the institutional data dictionary, standards of data cleanliness, and other important data integrity needs.
Strategic Planning
Provides leadership for the institution's strategic planning initiatives.
Guides departments, groups, and individuals to align operational plans with the institutional strategic plan.
Oversees the development and maintenance of data dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly reports on progress, highlighting areas of achievement as well as areas needing attention
Compliance
Provides expertise and guidance on compliance with federal and state regulations.
Works with IT to monitor privacy and security compliance.
Collaborates with the Chief Compliance Officer to determine appropriate use and interpretation of data.
Other
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Master's degree required in a research-related field, such as statistics, social science, or data analytics, or an equivalent combination of academic degree achievement and professional knowledge.
Experience
Minimum of three to five years professional experience in higher education research, data management and data analysis.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong presentation skills, demonstrated business analysis, systems data modeling, analytic and consultative, and project management skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of current higher education issues, assessment and accreditation.
Demonstrated strong analytical skills and experience with statistical analysis and research; should be an advanced user of one or more statistical analysis tools/software packages (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, etc.).
Proficient in business intelligence and data visualization tools and methodologies.
Proficient in advanced concepts of Microsoft Excel and other Office suite products to increase efficiency/turnaround of data requests.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Hours Expectation
Exempt Full-time, 35 hours per week
