Job Description
The Financial Aid Counselor plays a vital role in guiding students and their families through the financial aid process, ensuring they have a clear understanding of their eligibility, available assistance programs, and long-term financial planning. In a financial aid office committed to empowering students with financial literacy, this position provides accurate, student-centered counseling to help individuals make informed decisions about financing their education. The counselor assists with the financial aid application process, proactively advises students on how academic choices may impact their financial aid and supports the administration of aid programs as assigned by the Associate Director. Additionally, they collaborate closely with the OneStop team to provide responsive, high-quality service to students and families.

Bachelor’s Degree
Experience
At least one year of demonstrated work experience in financial aid is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Full-time, 35 hours per week

Job Description

Supervisory Responsibilities
- None.
- Provide financial aid counseling to students and parents regarding all aspects of financial aid process; make necessary referrals to other student service offices
- Provide excellent customer service to students and parents regarding all financial aid matters; respond to emails, phone calls, be available for in person and online appointments and meet with walk-ins to the office
- Collect required documentation and supporting materials; assist with technical review of all financial aid applications and preparation of student files
- Assist in the administration of federal, state, institutional, and outside aid programs including utilization of federal and state websites
- Actively participate in promoting financial literacy by leading or supporting workshops, presentations, and outreach efforts designed to help students develop essential financial skills and make informed financial decisions
- Interact with appropriate third-party entities in order to facilitate the student eligibility process
- Participate in regular training and professional organizations to keep abreast of new information and program changes to be implemented
- Perform other duties as assigned
