Summary
This is a part time/seasonal position to provide a leadership/supervisory role for the Overlook Day Camp. The Assistant Director will be in direct contact with children, counselors, parents, and Director, and will report to the Youth Program Manager.
Essential Functions
- In the absence of the Director, oversee day to day operations of Overlook Day Camp. Assist the director as needed.
- Coordinate the weekly schedule with counselors, following the appropriate shifts.
- Ensure each child is appropriately signed in and out each day.
- Provide a leadership role to playground counselors. Help with delegating activities for the day.
- Ensure children are always in a safe environment.
- Assist with coordinating structured games, activities, and crafts.
- Effectively communicate rules, guidelines, scoring, and possible scenarios regarding games and activities.
- Communicate with parents any minor behavioral issues which occurred that day. Report major behavioral issues to Youth Program Manager.
- Assist the director with creating weekly themes and newsletters to be handed out to parents prior to each camp week.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to demonstrate physical fitness to include frequent light to occasional heavy lifting (up to 30 lbs.) standing, and walking for long periods of time, bending, pushing, and pulling.
- Able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms, push items overhead, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Ability to talk, hear, and see.
Competencies
- Ability to communicate township/department policies, rules, and regulations to all that use the facility
- Ability to provide direct leadership and instruction as needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively to children from grades 1-6.

Required Education and Experience
- 1 Year Child Management experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- CPR/AED Certification (Township provides as needed)
Preferred Education and Experience
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program for childcare or education.
