Work Environment: Primarily works in an office environment
Schedule: You will not have a fixed schedule. Instead, your start time, working hours, and overall schedule will be assigned to you by the department manager. This scheduling will be based on the operational needs and priorities of the department. Flexibility is crucial, as your hours may vary from week to week depending on these needs. Kindly note that you will be required to work some nights and weekends. You will be provided with a schedule two weeks in advance.
Summary
The Passport Agent is responsible for providing passport services and creating a positive experience for customers of the service.
Essential Functions
- Complete required Passport Agent certification training, including annual recertification
- Keep apprised of updates issued by the Department of State and implement changes
- Inspect citizenship documentation to determine validity
- Verify completeness of required documentation and application and inform applicant of deficiencies
- Take passport photos
- Collect fees and record transactions in accordance with current procedures
- Prepare postage and submit application and documentation to designated passport agency for processing
- Maintain confidentiality of passport records and applicant identity
- Secure applicant's documents and all other passport related documents
Other Functions
- Answer applicant questions about the process and scheduling prior to an appointment
- Seek guidance from the Library's Passport Program Coordinator or the Philadelphia Passport Office when necessary
- Monitor the arrival of applications to the Department of State's Regional Agency
- Take inventory of passport supplies and report shortages to the Passport Program Coordinator
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently
- Dexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingers
- Ability to complete keyboard entry
- Ability to talk, hear, and see
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Required Education and Experience
High school diploma
U.S. citizen or non-citizen U.S. national
Preferred Education and Experience
Associates or bachelor's degree
Passport Agent experience
Second language is a plus
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Valid driver's license
Must pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check.
