- POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform police operational support tasks to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services in designated areas, perform general administrative duties, respond to requests from the public, and handle any other assignment, as required.
This is a uniformed position assigned to the Patrol Division and reports to an assigned Supervisor or Command Officer.
- RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform duties in the following designated areas as assigned:
- Crash-Incident Complaints
Receive incoming reports, talk to complainant, obtain information, and file detailed crash-incident reports. Perform follow-up investigations and take corrective action as required by laws, ordinance, policy, or procedure.
- Police Assistance
As necessary, respond to police calls to provide support, escorts, direct traffic, assist with protecting crime scenes, etc.
- Support Tasks
Transport vehicles for servicing, perform pickup and delivery to various government offices, vendors, labs, post office or other entity. Maintain inventory of police fleet to include: lights, tires, wheels, specialized equipment, fluids, obvious defects, and overall appearance. Maintain inventory of radio batteries, ammunition, weapons, specialized weapons, internal / external computers and network, entire physical plant, HVAC, furniture, fax, copy machines, etc.
- Animal Control Duties
Respond to and investigate animal complaints, attempt to locate the animal's owner, assist or take enforcement action with a sworn officer, as required by ordinance or law.
Transport animals to the local shelter and prepare reports or records.
- Park Security
Provide security functions (observing and reporting) at the parks of Manheim Township. Park Guards will observe and even point out violations of park rules or laws but will not be involved in any enforcement. Enforcement will be conducted by sworn police personnel.
- School Crossing Guard (As Needed)
Position is occasionally responsible for assisting with stopping traffic at an assigned intersection to ensure maximum protection for children walking to and from school.
Direct, and control the movement of children at an assigned post.
Prevent children from attempting to cross when traffic is moving.
III. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of English, spelling, and arithmetic.
- Knowledge of office practices and clerical tasks after a reasonable orientation.
- Knowledge of computers required along with knowledge of word processing software and spreadsheets.
- Rules and regulations governing department operations.
- Following oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Knowledge, skill and / or ability to the extent required for satisfactory performance as determined by the employer.
- Must possess a valid PA driver's license.
- Must maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
- WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in either a variety of indoor or outdoor settings, sometimes during inclement weather conditions. Work may involve safety hazards which are controlled by safety policies, procedures, and training. Work requires operating vehicles or walking.
This position is Safety Sensitive.
Working hours are typically an 8 hour shift between the hours 7 am- 10 pm or similar.
