What are the responsibilities and job description for the Foundry Workers position at Manitowoc Grey Iron Foundry?
Positions available in the Foundry that will include working in various departments.
Knocking out Castings, Cutting Off Castings, Shot Blasting, Grinding off Riser Contacts and Parting Lines.
Positions available on 2nd and 3rd shift that include working in various departments of the Foundry. Experience working with Grey Iron or Ductile Iron preferred but not necessary. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, but occasionally up to 80 pounds
2nd shift works 2pm until 10pm (some departments 1:50pm until 9:50pm)
3rd shift works from 10pm until 6am
Candidates should have a reliable work history, employees are expected to work their scheduled 40 hours. We do allow employees to request Leave of Absence for days off when they do not have vacation available. We do this so avoid call-ins from employees and avoid employees receiving occurrences that can put their job in jeopardy. We appreciate Employees scheduling Leaves of Absence to keep our customer orders running on schedule.
We are a member of the Local 301 Union.
Overtime may be necessary, and paid anything over 8 hours/day working Some Saturdays
- Clean and smooth molds, cores, and core boxes, and repair surface imperfections.
- Cut spouts, runner holes, and sprue holes into molds.
- Form and assemble slab cores around patterns and position wire in mold sections to reinforce molds, using hand tools and glue.
- Lift upper mold sections from lower sections and remove molded patterns.
- Move and position workpieces such as mold sections, patterns, and bottom boards, using cranes, or signal others to move workpieces.
- Operate ovens or furnaces to bake cores or to melt, skim, and flux metal.
- Position cores into lower sections of molds, and reassemble molds for pouring.
- Position patterns inside mold sections and clamp sections together.
- Pour molten metal into molds, manually or using crane ladles.
- Rotate sweep boards around spindles to make symmetrical molds for convex impressions.
- Sift and pack sand into mold sections, core boxes, and pattern contours, using hand or pneumatic ramming tools.
- Sprinkle or spray parting agents onto patterns and mold sections to facilitate removal of patterns from molds.
- Tend machines that bond cope and drag together to form completed shell molds.
- Positions also involve knocking out castings, cutting off castings, shot blasting, or grinding off riser contacts and parting lines.
Must be able to inspect parts and notice defects....attention to detail is necessary
Candidates should also have basic math skills and be able to read and understand process sheets.
Safety is very important at MGIF, employees must operate equipment including grinders and other tools safely.
