Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalency
• Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
• Experience working in facility repairs and maintenance.
• Ability to develop strong positive constructive relations with department co-workers, building staff and administration
• Knowledge and experience operating and maintaining trucks, tractors, skid steer, lawn mowers and other grounds equipment
• Experience loading/unloading trailering various machines and equipment
• Ability to read and interpret basic operating instructions/manuals
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently alone and in a team environment.
• Must possess strong interpersonal and relationship skills

Job Summary:

This position keeps the district's buildings and grounds in such a state of operating excellence as to present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. This position has responsibility for routine care of the grounds (snow removal, grass cutting, tree and shrub pruning, leave collection and disposal). The position performs general maintenance tasks inside and outside the buildings. This position also supports the custodial operations within the MPSD facilities when necessary. All assigned duties are completed under the supervision of the Director of Building and Grounds.

Essential Functions:

• Perform general building maintenance requiring some degree of skill and ability in handling common tools and equipment for the performance of the assigned repairs.
• Provide maintenance in various areas such as painting, flooring and wall repair, concrete, welding, plumbing, heating, roofing, and electrical.
• Perform site maintenance duties including, but not limited to the following, lawn mowing, trimming, raking leaves, planting and/or trimming shrubs and trees, snow removal, preparation of athletic fields
• Perform custodial support as assigned for building operations throughout the MPSD facilities.
• Maintains and keeps current on all assigned employee safety training requirements and complies with State, local, and Board of Education guidelines.
• Utilize basic computer programs for email, absence management and maintenance work orders.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Valid driver's license with good driving record. Ability to obtain and maintain WI-Dept of Trade and Consumer Protection certifications of pesticide and herbicide applicator (MPSD will provide and cover costs associated with this training and recertification).

Other Skills and Abilities - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as maintenance landscaping supplies, bags of snow/ice melt, custodial supplies and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 pounds such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors (grounds work, lawn mowing and snow removal) and will routinely work indoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Frequently, the employee will work alone and occasionally will work irregular or extended hours.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area.

Pay: $18.22 - $20.26 per hour
