What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Operator- Power Plant position at Manitowoc Public Utilities?

The Assistant Plant Operator performs field duties assisting the Power Plant Operations Shift Foreman and Fireman/Boiler Operator in the proper operation and minor maintenance of all the power plant machinery and equipment.
Our team will provide on the job training with various members doing the same role today. We make certain you feel competent about your role on the team and understand what and how things need to be done. There will be cross over time with the individuals retiring from this role.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Works closely with Operations Shift Foreman and Fireman/Boiler Operator as part of 3-person crew.
Make shift rounds in the power plant checking and documenting key performance indicators on equipment such as temperature, pressure and status.
Awareness of overall plant equipment and operations identifying deficiencies, and taking appropriate corrective actions.
Supports fuel loading and material handling using payloader as needed, no special licensing required, on the job training provided.
Observes plant safety rules, performs assigned tasks in a safe manner and is alert for unsafe acts and conditions.
This role is on a rotating operating shift (swing shift). The schedule is set at the end of the year for the entire upcoming year.
Sample of Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High school degree or equivalent is required, 2-year college degree preferred.
Knowledge of the functions and mechanics of pumps, electrical equipment, machinery and instrumentation.
Ability to communicate clearly, read and operate meters, and analyze data to adjust equipment.
Starting Pay Rate: $33.71/hour
