Our R&D Scientist will conduct research, focusing on development and modification of new products to meet the market needs with hands-on materials and instruments. This role will strongly support our Environmental Health & Safety, Production, and Sales efforts.
Role Responsibilities:
- Development of new product based on laboratory and sales projects and their implementation at the customer.
- Product service and maintenance.
- The optimisation and development of formulations
- Process optimization and efficiency optimization
- Applications engineering
- Monitor the EPA environmental update
- Apply all the new EPA regulations to new development
- Apply all the new EPA regulations to existing products after consultation with sales
- The consideration of environmental and occupational safety aspects
- Support in the correction and reprocessing of defective batches
- Answering of customer requests in coordination with the superior and the sales department.
- Training of both staff members and customers.
- Maintenance and calibration of measuring instruments.
- General administrative tasks in the lab.
- Initiate and review technical data sheets.
- follow up of the EHS compliance rules.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Requires flexibility and understanding that this position may be required to perform duties outside the duties listed above in order to meet the mission and goals of Mankiewicz Coatings.
- Ph.D. in in Chemistry or another related field, Master in in Chemistry or another related field and 4-8 years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or another related field and 6-12 years of experience.
- Receive hazardous waste training within 6 months of initial employment, and annually thereafter in accordance with the applicable provisions of R.61-79.262.17(a)(7)(ii), (iii) and (iv)(D) of the South Carolina Hazardous Waste Management Regulations (SCHWMR).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Experience with SAP software (preferred).
- Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices.
- This job operates in a lab environment. This role routinely uses standard lab equipment, intricate measuring devices, test equipment and related precision devices. Clarity of near vision is required.
- The position requires the ability to travel both domestically and internationally, including to countries and customers that may require proof of vaccination.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching.
- Must be able to mix paints, use paint sprayers and other equipment to efficiently and effectively perform the job.
- Exposure to fumes and hazardous chemicals.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone.
