We are looking for a Colorimetric Specialist who will work in our Research and Development Lab. This position will include: enhancing paint coating color technologies by ensuring color match is within tolerance, creating new colors to match customer needs and assuring color samples are conducted in a timely manner.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide support for color lab, and liaise with production, customer service, sales and development regarding color issues.
- Process & validate formula change requests and update appropriate databases of approved formulas.
- Record and communicate formulations in a clear and unambiguous manner, noting any special features or requirements.
- Reproduce colors on various high-quality polyurethane, epoxy, water, and solvent based paint and coating platforms.
- Adhere to applicable health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Provide necessary lab documentation and assist with any audits to support quality management program.
- Provide proactive support to a fast paced, growth oriented environment.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Requires flexibility and understanding that this position may be required to perform duties outside the duties listed above in order to meet the mission and goals of Mankiewicz Coatings.
Role Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Chemistry, Physics or similar background preferred.
- Receive hazardous waste training within 6 months of initial employment, and annually thereafter in accordance with the applicable provisions of R.61-79.262.17(a)(7)(ii), (iii) and (iv)(D) of the South Carolina Hazardous Waste Management Regulations (SCHWMR).
- Color matching skills or previous work as a color specialist required.
- Must have full perception of the color spectrum and the ability to create/adjust formulas in a timely manner.
- Exceptional paint application and process background with polyurethane, epoxy, solvent and water based paints and coatings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers .
- Experience with SAP software (preferred).
- Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices.
Physical Demands:
- This job operates in a lab environment. This role routinely uses standard lab equipment, intricate measuring devices, test equipment and related precision devices.
- The position requires the ability to travel both domestically and internationally, including to countries and customers that may require proof of vaccination.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching.
- Must be able to mix paints, use paint sprayers and other equipment to efficiently and effectively perform the job.
- Exposure to fumes and hazardous chemicals.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
