Assistant Director of Summer Day Camp (Seasonal)
Manlius Pebble Hill School (MPH) seeks an Assistant Director of Summer Day Camp to join its summer camp team. The MPH summer camp typically runs 6 weeks in the summer. Our 2025 summer camp runs June 30-August 8 (no camp July 4). Although this is a seasonal position, we are seeking a candidate who is interested in investing in the future summers of our day camp.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Summer Day Camp, the assistant director will assist the camp director in the overall management of camp in day-to-day operations. In the director’s absence the assistant camp director assumes the role of the director. The assistant director is responsible for coordinating, developing, and overseeing the Counselor-in-Training program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summer Programs Operations – Assist the Summer Camp Director in daily operations of the camp program which consists of Summer Place, Fun Place, and Kinder Place.
Staff Training – Assist the Summer Camp Director in staff training for summer camp counselors in accordance with the Onondaga County Health Department.
Assistant Summer Camp Director Duties – Coordinate, develop, and oversee Counselor-In-Training program. In the director’s absence, act as point person for camp counselors. Greet parents in the morning and be available for parents at the end of the camp day. Assist in developing strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Assist director regarding camper behavior issues and parent communication. Assist with staff scheduling and other duties assigned as needed.
Prior to and after camp duties – Meet with the Director of Community Programs and Director of Summer Camp to review, evaluate, and make positive changes for summer camp. Assist in preparation plans for camp and summer camp set-up during the week prior to camp and clean up the week after camp.

- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to lead and inspire campers and staff, work independently, and collaborate as a thoughtful and enthusiastic member of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) a plus
