Position Summary
We are looking for a Pastor of Missions and Community Engagement to help deepen and broaden our missional reach. This one-year contract position (with a strong desire and intention to extend beyond one year) is part-time (~20 hours/week) and reports directly to the Senior Pastor. In this role, you will work closely with the Missions Committee to inspire, equip, and mobilize our church family—especially younger generations—to serve and love our community in creative, holistic ways.

Key Responsibilities
- Bridge Between Church & Community
- Develop and nurture meaningful relationships with local nonprofits, organizations, and community groups.
- Identify engaging, hands-on service projects and outreach initiatives that resonate with young adults, families, and post-college individuals.
- Champion an environment of compassion, justice, and reconciliation as an authentic reflection of Christ’s love.
- Build a Missional Culture
- Cultivate a culture of relational service, ensuring that mission becomes part of MVC’s everyday life.
- Encourage hospitality, inclusivity, and bridge-building among all ages and backgrounds.
- Seamlessly integrate outreach and mission into the rhythm of church life, inviting everyone to participate.
- Empower Congregation for Kingdom Work
- Provide training, resources, and spiritual support for individuals, families, and Connection Groups engaging in community work.
- Help congregants discover and leverage their unique gifts, creating joyful and lasting ministry impact.
- Promote intergenerational service, partnering with youth, children’s, and family ministries on mission projects.
- Develop Strategic Partnerships
- Initiate and grow partnerships with local churches, civic groups, and faith-based initiatives for greater collective impact.
- Connect MVC with the Hawaii Conference UCC and national UCC ministries, shining a light on opportunities for collaboration and service.
- Ensure that outreach efforts are purposeful, coordinated, and responsive to real community needs.
- Support Transformational Relationships
- Encourage ongoing, relational engagement over single events—nurturing long-term companionship with those in need.
- Create initiatives that foster consistency and genuine friendship, helping the vulnerable feel truly seen and valued.
- Promote a culture of mutual respect and love in every interaction—pointing people to the heart of Jesus.
Additional Responsibilities
- Congregational Engagement: Attend worship, small groups, and church-wide events to stay connected.
- Leadership Development: Partner with the Missions Committee to mentor emerging leaders in outreach.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers to ensure cohesive, Spirit-led outreach.
- Administrative Support: Implement and maintain effective systems, policies, and communication strategies to sustain missions work.
Qualifications
- Public Speaking & Presentation: Strong communication skills to mobilize and inspire.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to lead teams and encourage volunteer involvement.
- Writing & Documentation: Capable of creating clear resources, proposals, and reports.
- Bereavement & Hospice Care Experience (Preferred): Experience offering pastoral care in crisis.
- Teaching & Mentoring: Background in training others, whether in small groups or larger settings.
- Event Planning & Conflict Management: Skilled in organizing community events and navigating challenges calmly.
- Christian Counseling & Community Engagement: Familiar with church-based and nonprofit initiatives.
- Ministry Leadership or Community Organizing: Especially in church or nonprofit settings, working with diverse populations.
- Organizational Skills: Able to juggle multiple outreach projects while keeping relationships at the forefront.
- Passion for Mobilizing Younger Generations: A heart for guiding youth and young adults in mission and social justice.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
