Surgery Scheduler
Manoogian Orthopedic Center is a busy privately own orthopedic practice who is searching for a dynamic individual who is a qualified surgery scheduler to join our team. Applicant must be able to perform in a high volume medical office while providing quality patient care and attention to details. This position involves working closely with patients, as well as the doctor and the advance practice providers who treat them. Reviewing the chart, scheduling various types of surgeries, obtain pre-authorizations, ability to take direction and
multi-task.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Serves as main resource to physician and APP for surgery scheduling.
- Review surgical orders and prepares preoperative paperwork as ordered by physician and advance practice provider.
- Verify insurance benefits prior and obtain insurance prior authorization (as necessary) for patients prior to surgical procedures.
- Work with supervisor on writing predetermination and appeal letters to various insurance companies as needed.
- Calculate patient financial estimates and collect payments prior to surgery.
- Schedule inpatient, outpatient, and office based procedures as ordered.
- Communicates with patients and their families to provide detailed instructions, directions and resources available.
- Maintains physician’s surgical calendar.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
- Completes all surgical forms and sends all pertinent patient's records to surgical facilities.
- Coordinates preadmission testing for all surgical patients.
- Coordinates postop physical therapy appointments.
- Schedule patients pre-op and post-op appointments.
- Ensures all paperwork needed for surgery is received by the facility.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Ensures all preoperative testing are ordered and completed timely while functioning with minimal supervision.
- Communicates all changes of schedule to appropriate departments in a timely fashion.
Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure Required:
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Medical insurance knowledge.
- Medical knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes is a plus.
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a medical office setting preferred.
- Previous EMR experience, Eclinical preferred.
- Microsoft words and Excel preferred.
