What are the responsibilities and job description for the CTE Auto Tech Teacher position at Manor High School?

Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.


Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

  • Valid Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification (preferred)

AND

OPTION 1

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) from accredited university
  • Valid Texas Trade and Industrial Education (6-12) certification

OR

OPTION 2

 

  • •Bachelor’s or Associates' degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) from an accredited institution
  • Three years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for the classes you will be teaching
  • Seeking Texas Trade and Industrial Education (6-12) certification based on skill and experience from an approved educator preparation program (EPP).

OR

OPTION 3 (with Superintendent approval)

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of full-time wage-earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for the classes you will be teaching
  • Seeking Associates' degree from an accredited institution (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Seeking Texas Trade and Industrial Education (6-12) certification based on skill and experience from an approved educator preparation program (EPP).

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of career and technical education subject assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to oversee student field experiences in career area assigned
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skill

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of student’s assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Present a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

Personal or laptop computer, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, telephone, electronic mobile devices, projector, video display monitor and related coaching equipment

Regularly sit, talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds; may be required to lift students, control behavior; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; frequent, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include close vision; and color vision, regularly work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress; the noise level is usually moderate.
The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
