Tour Guide/Docent
This position supports the work of the historic Ohio State Reformatory (Reformatory), a nonprofit committed to preserving and restoring one of Ohio’s most treasured historic sites while educating the public about the history of the former institution. The tour guide/docent is responsible for treating our guests with respect and sharing the history of the Reformatory by leading spoken walking tours for up to 40 guests at a time through the building.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for learning, retaining, and being able to effectively share the history of the Ohio State Reformatory, as well as information about the Hollywood activities that have taken place here. A thorough training process is in place to ensure success.
2. Guiding tours through the building while presenting information verbally to up to 40 guests a time. The tour route requires an ability to climb stairs, navigate heights, and tolerate temperature fluctuations.
3. Providing quality customer service and general assistance to the self-guided tour guests on the route.
4. Must be able to work weekends. Occasional evening hours may also be required for special events.
5. Complete tasks outside of giving tours that assist in the general operation of the building which may include, but are not limited to: light cleaning duties, table and chair set-up for events, seasonal decorating, or assisting the restoration crew during the slow season.
6. Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
7. Related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Solid organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
2. Public speaking, teaching, and/or theater experience preferred.
3. Previous customer service or related experience.
4. Familiarity with using team chat, scheduling apps, and timeclock systems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Certain areas of the building are not temperature-controlled, meaning it can be very hot in the summer and very cold (below freezing) in the winter. Guides/docents will need to dress properly and be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk distances, climb multiple sets of stairs, and navigate heights and narrow spaces.
- The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Pay: $15 per hour
Fringe Benefits: Paid time-off for fulltime employees to include: Vacation (after 1 year of service), sick time, paid holidays (as listed in our employment manual), personal time and bereavement leave.
Expected hours: Applicants seeking fulltime (32-40 hours per week) preferred. We are open to part-time employment (minimum of 3 days, 20-24 hours, per week) for the right candidates.
