What are the responsibilities and job description for the Database Administrator position at ManTech?
Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior Database Administrator to join our team in Frederick, MD!
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide database administration, maintenance, and support activities for unstructured database technologies in a virtualized and / or cloud environment (AWS).
- Perform database administration support and application configuration support for software deployment operations, build cycles, major testing activities, and other critical production operations support activities as required.
- Routinely review and implement database STIGs and ISSO policies for the MongoDB environments.
- Perform site database maintenance and assist in the optimization of these databases using basic Linux commands and mtools for performance and tuning.
- Monitor database performance statistics and recommend improvements thru the use of Ops Manager and mtools.
- Conduct and document formal peer reviews of all coding and scripting associated with database support of applications and infrastructure including bash and puppet scripts.
- Define hardware and software specifications for capacity and performance requirements (e.g., baseline technical performance measures/metrics)
- Database user and role administration
- Maintain environment stability and perform backup/recovery using Ops Manager, and mongo shell tools (mongodump, mongoexport, mongorestore, mongoimport) as required.
- Perform rolling upgrades the MongoDB replica sets and upgrade Ops Manager and its corresponding agents.
- Review Database Engineer’s MongoDB AWS solution to ensure operational viability.
- Develop and implement backup and recovery scheme, disaster recovery and business continuance procedures for the cloud environment/AWS.
- Proactively identify and communicate issues, risks, and progress to customer, contractor team, and IT stakeholders, providing options and next steps.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, management information systems, or related field.
- 5 years of experience as a DBA using one or more of the following database technologies: Oracle, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, ElasticSearch (ELK) and HADOOP
- 2 years of experience specifically with MongoDB and Ops Manager in a virtual environment and / or cloud environment; preferably AWS.
- Experience with managing and administering databases in an AWS cloud environment or professional AWS training (EC2 servers, cloud storage solutions, etc.)
- Experience with mongo shell and writing json queries to update documents.
- Provide superior customer service; possess strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills in a dynamic customer centric environment.
- Highly motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while problem solving.
- Willing to obtain a Sec certification within 6 months of start date
Preferred Qualifications:
- A current Sec certification is preferred

- U.S. citizenship Must be willing to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
Physical Requirements:
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing/walking/Talking and must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one work site to another.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
