What are the responsibilities and job description for the Downstream Process Scientist I position at Manus?

We are seeking a highly motivated Process Scientist to develop chemical processes for natural products from fermentation-based processes. This hands-on position requires a desire and ability to work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as the demonstration of a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and initiative. This person will be expected to play an integral part of Manuss process development team located in Augusta, GA.

Responsibilities:
- Design experiments to develop new chemical processes and improve performance of existing ones.
- Execute bench-scale studies to support process development, manufacturing, and new product sample generation.
- Analyze, record and communicate data in various formats, including laboratory notebooks, presentations, process diagrams and reports
- Stay abreast of literature and emerging technologies and for their potential application to Manus processes.
- Engage in cross-team collaborations and disseminate data across various functional teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines (2 years or more of industrial experience). Outstanding candidates with a B.S. (7 years or more experience, or M.S. (5 years or more of experience) will also be considered.
- Experience with purification techniques such as filtration, extraction and crystallization
- Experience with spectroscopic methods such as NMR, Mass Spectrometry and I.R. and experience in chemical structure elucidation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including excellent presentation skills.
- Critical thinker with enthusiasm for deriving solutions to complex challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with scaling chemical processes is a plus
- Experience in flow chemistry is a plus
- Experience with analytical instrumentation such as High Pressure Liquid Chromatography and Gas Chromatography is a plus
- Knowledge of or practice in the fields of biology and biotechnology is a plus
