Registered Dental Assistant Career Responsibilities
A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) will exemplify the Core Mission and Values of Maple Family Dental and help us to make our Motto come to life: We Care About YOU…And Your Teeth. The RDA will provide the doctor with assistance in performing the procedures of treatment and to help our dental clinic serve our patients efficiently and compassionately. He/She will be friendly, outgoing and highly organized. An RDA needs to have excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. An RDA will help Create, Establish, and follow internal office protocols and procedures to ensure office efficiency.
The Doctor and team will aim to provide the RDA with all the support, training, supplies, and materials needed for them to be successful and ENJOY their career. The Doctor and team value good communication and the expertise that the Registered Dental Assistant has brought to the table.
Essential Functions (RDA):
- Daily turn on necessary systems for preparation of treatment (compression, lights, water, etc.)
- Set up treatment rooms and prep trays with appropriate instruments for each procedure.
- Seat patients.
- Wear gloves, mask, and protective eyewear.
- Take and display X-rays.
- Make the patient's visit as comfortable as possible.
- Instruct and educate patients about clinical procedures.
- Combine efficiency, productivity, and caring for patients in all actions.
- Assist in all dental procedures.
- Perform four-handed assisting skills and delegated expanded duties.
- Perform all expanded duties allowed by state law.
- Write/enter a complete description of the procedure in the patient's chart, with the initials and the date.
- Chart the treatment plan as the doctor calls out the recommendations.
- Confirm x-rays have been taken for all treatment recommended.
- Enter notes indicating reasons for recommended treatment, including specifics required by insurance companies.
- Explain as necessary planned dental treatment or procedures to the patient when questions are asked.
- Focus conversations with patients on the patient or on dentistry.
- Responsible for maximizing the production scheduled for the day by keeping a watch on the treatment plan to see that all possible work that has financial arrangements is completed that day.
- Responsible to keep the operatories on time so that the patients are seen on time. If running behind, the chairside will notify the receptionist who will in turn notify the next patient.
- Take impressions or scan.
- Pour up impressions in stone.
- Make temporaries.
- Coronal polish as necessary.
- Give post-operative instructions.
- Dismiss patients and complete their charts with services recorded for the day's treatment and information on next visit.
- Disinfect handpieces and operatories after each patient.
- Sterilize instruments and trays
- Clean impression trays.
- Maintain the X-ray and sterilization equipment.
- Coordinate and record lab cases (in and out).
- May help out in another section of the office during down time.
- Turn off systems at end of day
- Oil hand pieces (afternoon/evening).
- Empty trash.
- Straighten lab.
- Straighten sterilization room.
- Ensure completion of charts.
- Call patients after difficult treatment
- Review next day’s schedule for information that should be shared at the next morning huddle
- Stock operatories.
- Manage inventory control
- Order supplies.
- Put supplies away.
- Empty suction traps and run cleaner through suction weekly.
- Contribute to the office being HIPAA and OSHA Complaint
Non-Essential Functions:
- Contribute to team spirit
- Contribute to team meetings
- Assist team members in all areas of clinic
- Cross train in other areas of the practice
- General and non-specific cleaning of dental office
- Keeping Sidewalk clear of debris for patient safety
Schedule: Monday 8am-5pm; Tuesday-Thursdays 7-4pm; Occasional Fridays.
Pay: Competitive Starting wages and salary varies depending on experience.
