What You Will Do
Security guards have many responsibilities, including patrolling, monitoring, and ensuring the safety of a property:
Patrolling
Security guards patrol their assigned area, including buildings, grounds, and other areas. They may also direct traffic, especially at the beginning and end of the business day.
Monitoring
Security guards monitor crowds and visitors. They may also perform security checks on visitors, monitor dress code policy, and identify intoxicated or unwanted guests.
Ensuring Safety
Security guards ensure the security of the property by securing doors, windows, and gates, and by investigating suspicious activity. They may also respond to alarms and distress calls and detain people suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrives.
Reporting
Security guards report suspicious activities, incidents, and other unusual occurrences to the appropriate authorities. They may also keep a daily log of these events.
Enforcing Policies
Security guards enforce company security policies and legal protocols. They may also restrain trespassers and escort unwanted people off the property.
Qualifications
Security guards need to have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and be able to remain calm in stressful situations.
