What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer (Walker, MI) position at Maple Leaf Farms?
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Daily review of material inventory levels.
- Actively manage component and finished goods inventory levels to achieve desired turns and service levels.
- Maintain apprporiate level of packaging materials.
- Establish and maintain productive, mutually-respectful supplier relationships.
- Issue purchase orders to domestic and international suppliers.
- Negotiate prices with suppliers.
- Maintain vendor performance data.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities
- Set raw material and packaging material standard costs and monitor price movements reguarly.
- Complete trend analysis to identify changes in customer buying habits.
- Create & implement a part identification system for packaging & marketing elements.
- Assist in new product development
Essential Skills:
- Strong computer literacy with ERP systems experience required.
- Previous experience must include purchasing and inventory management; vendor selection and evaluation process experience is desired.
- Experience with Asian-based suppliers.
- Analytical and process-oriented skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to accurately gather and report information.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and problem-solve in an effective, timely and cost-appropriate manner.
- Must be self-motivating and capable of working both independently and in a team setting.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree, plus 2-5 years' experience or related experience (5 plus years).
Past experience in purchasing textile products is a plus.
