Instructional Coach
Location: Briggs Elementary (may provide occasional coaching in other buildings depending on content areas and building needs)
POSITION TITLE: Instructional Coach (1 FTE position available)
FUNDING SOURCE: Teacher Leadership and Compensation System (TLC Funds)
FUNCTIONAL AREA: Teacher Leadership
EVALUATED BY: District Administrators
SALARY: According to certified teacher salary schedule, plus $7,500 stipend
TERM: 195 days
LOCATION: Maquoketa Community School District/Briggs
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The State of Iowa Department of Education sets certification requirements and such licenses are issued through the Board of Educational Examiners. Persons must hold an appropriate license to be employed.
PURPOSE: The Instructional Coach, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and high leverage teaching practices. The Instructional Coach will support the goals of student centered coaching with the intent to support and carry out the mission, vision and goals of the Maquoketa CSD.
Primary Job Duties:
- Engage in student centered coaching cycles with teachers
- Begin to integrate the Core Teaching Capabilities Instructional Framework into coaching cycles to support teachers with goal setting, reflection and celebrating learning.
- Observe instruction in the field and provide discussion of strengths, areas of improvement, and strategies for growth
- Coordinate instructional coaching activities relating to training and professional development with the Area Education Agency (AEA) or other agency when appropriate
- Analyze/synthesize classroom data with teachers (including feedback from students and building leadership) and administrators to improve instructional practices and student engagement.
- Have regular meetings with building principal(s) to discuss instructional strategies being implemented throughout the building
- Demonstrate lessons and instructional strategies in the classroom
- Work closely with administration and Director of Instruction/Student Services to ensure that curriculum being taught in the classroom is properly aligned vertically and horizontally
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and current Iowa Teaching License
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience, with at least one in the MCSD
- Experience in researched-based instructional practices.

- Instructional strategies
- Assessment driven instruction (teaching/learning process)
- Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations
- Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated strength in organization, communication skills, and efficiency in meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team.

- Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators
- Communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
- Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching with participants to support them in implementing good instructional practices.
