Lab Analyst Technician
Job Summary
The Marathon Martinez California Renewable Fuel Refinery is currently seeking a Lab Technician/Analyst to work in the Quality Assurance Laboratory. The position’s work schedule will be 5 AM - 5:30 PM AND 5:00 PM- 5:30AM - 4 days on and 4 days off - rotating between days and night shifts.
Starting pay - $49.05. Training will be provided to assist Lab Tech in achieving top qualification rate of $55.09. Typically Lab Tech reach top rate within one year. This is a union position with United Steelworkers Local 5.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct physical and chemical laboratory test procedures using standard industry methods.
- Utilize a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to enter data, track data trends, login samples and track instrument QC status in QC plus.
- Operate, clean, perform minor troubleshoot and maintenance on analyzers and associated equipment as directed.
- Maintain records, inventory parts, sampling supplies and chemicals, and order as directed.
- Prepare samples for hazardous shipping and track shipments for completion.
- Review all approval paperwork, acknowledge the validity of the data, and issue Report of Analysis/Certificate of Analysis through Sample Manager and Product Certification.
- Train in a timely manner on test methods, demonstrate proficiency, and assist in training new and less experienced personnel
- Perform general housekeeping, hazardous waste management and maintain safety equipment
- Support and maintain a positive working environment.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have Bachelors Degree in Science with four college chemistry courses and two college chemistry labs. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
- Must have at least 2 years of experience in a lab environment in similar industry such as refining, petro-chemical or other related industry.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must have a valid Driver's License. (MPC determines valid status.)
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and lab (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of lab experience in a refinery or petrochemical industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is preferred.
