KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Broad responsibility for development, maintenance, and improvement of policies and procedures related to key legal and ethical components of MPC’s Global Compliance & Ethics Program, including the Company’s Code of Business Conduct, antibribery/anticorruption, trade sanctions, federal government contracting, grants, and government affairs issues.
- Collaborate with business and support service partners to provide legal and strategic guidance to
- address risks arising under the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other global anticorruption laws, including managing and conducting anticorruption due diligence relating to engagement of third parties, charitable giving, business courtesies, sponsorships, and memberships;
- comply with trade sanctions, including management and screening of third parties, transactions, vessels, and port calls;
- support MPC’s state and federal Government Affairs teams, including related to lobbying activities; political action committees, corporate donations; business courtesies; and mandated reporting to relevant regulatory agencies;
- ensure adherence to federal government contracting standards and administrative requirements, including yearly registration and attestations; and compliance-related review and assessment of government bids and solicitations
- manage business conduct and integrity issues, including fraud, internal controls, conflicts of interest, and other matters.
- Review, draft, and negotiate compliance-related provisions in contracts with third parties.
- Develop and deliver in-person compliance-related training customized for specific functions and areas of risk.
- Oversee, lead, and conduct compliance-related reviews and internal investigations.
- Draft presentations and assist in presenting to MPC committees with oversight of the Global Compliance & Ethics Program.
- Support and assist with other compliance-related work and special projects as needed.
- JD degree from an accredited US law school.
- Current license to practice law in applicable states in which company has operations
- Minimum of 6-years of relevant experience.
- Experience as in-house or transactional counsel is preferred.
- Self-motivated, high level of personal energy and commitment to serve as a role model for others throughout the compliance function and the business.
- Ability to identify complex problems and effectively partner with clients to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple matters and effectively prioritize work to ensure completion in a timely and efficient manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented attitude. Ability to maintain positive and effective relationships with teammates.
- Problem-solver with demonstrated ability to facilitate discussions between all levels and must be comfortable working with entry level staff to senior executives.
- Excellent legal analysis, writing, and communications skills.
- Ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Ability to provide commercial, business-minded solutions to complex legal problems.
- Must understand dynamics of managing outside counsel.
- Ability to teach others complex subject matters.
- Desire to learn and open to feedback.
- Ability to travel up to 15%.
- This position belongs to a job progression with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Final position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
