Job Description
The Marblehead Public Schools is seeking candidates for a Special Education Teacher for their Inclusion and Therapeutic Program, Grades K-3. Candidates should have experience supporting students working on social/emotional and self-regulation goals, as well as academic support. The special education teacher provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities based on targeted goals and benchmark objectives as outlined on a student's IEP. The special education teacher will provide direct instruction to students as needed, as well as partner with core classroom teachers to support student learning in both general education and special education contexts. The special education teacher should have experience with research-based strategies or methods of reading instruction and the building of literacy skills in the content areas. This position includes official case management of students with disabilities, but it is the expectation that the special educator will work collaboratively and
proactively with colleagues to maximize progress for all students.
This is a permanent, full-time position, in accordance with the Marblehead Unit A contract.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Massachusetts DESE license in Mild/Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8)
• Masters or higher degree- preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drives Instruction and delivery of services for student caseload.
- Collaborates with team members, related service providers, and families to ensure progress toward student goals.
- Works to ensure the rights of students with disabilities to be full participants in the general curriculum
- Implements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education
- Participates in the development of and oversees implementation of IEPs for students eligible for special education
- Supervises and supports paraprofessionals as they implement instruction
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom
- Evaluate and maintain data on pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned during the working day
- Administers standardized tests following district testing program and to determine special education eligibility
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities
- Other duties as assigned
