EMPLOYMENT IS SEASONAL AND TEMPORARY** PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Extended School Year (ESY) is a Special Education program for students with disabilities whose IEP team has determined that to minimize substantial regression and reduce substantial recoupment time, a student is required to attend ESY. These services will be based upon the individual needs of the students per their IEP goals/objectives. This position is assigned to the Therapeutic Support Program (TSP), a safe therapeutic environment that provides academic, behavioral, social, and emotional supports in order to improve functioning in these areas.
The TSP teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with social/emotional and learning deficits in a variety of educational settings. The incumbent is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with primary social/emotional disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with accommodations, specially designed instruction, classroom aide support and other needed supports. REPORTS TO: Position reports to the ESY Director and the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services PROGRAM SCHEDULE: The instructional hours for students are 4 hours per day, 4 days per week, for 5 weeks from July 7 to August 7, 2025. The Therapeutic Teacher is expected to: Work all 20 days of the program.
Independently plan lessons to prepare for rigorous, structured reading instruction.Complete Progress Reports in the last week of the program.Consult with related service providers to address students needs.RESPONSIBILITIES: Teachers in this program provide students with rigorous instruction that demonstrates the MPS core competencies for effective teaching listed below. Due to the short duration of ESY and the critical need to support student learning during this time, it is particularly important that teachers in ESY: Provide direct reading instruction to students to address students IEP goals/objectives. Instruction will focus on reading, math, and social skills.Prepare cognitively demanding lessons, assignments and enrichment activities (requires some planning work outside of regular program hours).Differentiate instruction.Establish a productive learning environment and classroom culture in which all students are respected.Supervise safe arrival and dismissal of all students assigned to their classroom.Maintain timely student attendance and progress records.Provide students, families, site coordinators and program staff with relevant and timely data, including monitoring and reporting students progress to prevent regression as outlined in the program.Participate in all scheduled professional development.Care for program materials and resources.Engage as a partner in planning and problem solving.Assess students to provide information via progress reports at the end of the ESY services.Performs other related duties as requested by the ESY Site Coordinator or Assistant Superintendent of Student ServicesQUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Bachelors degree.Massachusetts Educator Licensure in Moderate /Severe DisabilitiesCurrent Safety Care certification.Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED: MPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. TERMS: Hourly rate of $40.
