Marblehead High School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Varsity Head Girls Ice Hockey Coach They will assume responsibility for the entire girls ice hockey program. They will work closely with the athletic department, while supervising assistant coaches. They are responsible for developing and overseeing the entire girls hockey program while fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe environment. They are expected to promote the values of our athletic department which include; teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, commitment, integrity, and responsibility.
Additionally, the head varsity coach will manage all fundraising, team dinners and community service initiatives. Below are the essential requirements and responsibilities of the Varsity Head Girls Ice Hockey Coach: QUALIFICATIONKnowledge of hockey techniques and coaching strategies.Ability to make practice plans and prepare the team to compete.Excellent communication and people skills.Ability to mentor and motivate athletes, providing guidance, feedback, and support to help them achieve their goalsOrganizational and management skills, including the ability to schedule and plan practices and events.Familiarity with MIAA ice hockey rules and regulations.REQUIREMENTSExperience playing and coaching high school hockeyKnowledge of common hockey injuries and conditioning/strengthening to help prevent and heal injuriesLeads by example regarding the promotion of sportsmanshipMust complete all Massachusetts coaching requirements, which includes the NFHS Concussion CertificateMust complete Marblehead School District requirements: Fingerprinting, CORI Background checkMust complete CPR/AED and First Aid CertificationAttend all practices, games, and events, including supervising on the bus to away games.15-20 hours per week and weekends required18-20 regular season games, with playoffs to follow, if qualifiedRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESAssumes responsibility for the entire program, which includes: Establish and promote a positive, growth-oriented team culture and climateCommunicate the team's practice and game schedule with the team and parents or guardians. Plan and supervise daily in-season activities for all season interscholastic hockey programSupervise and delegate responsibilities appropriately to varsity and sub-varsity program assistant coachesImplements and follows all MPS and MHS policiesCompliance with MIAA rules and regulationsAssure that out-of-season activities comply with MIAA rulesVerification of student physical examination requirements of the high schoolMonitor roster for approved athletic registration and eligibility listingCommunicate with the Athletic Trainer regarding injuriesAssist in the care for and oversees the storage of all equipment and uniformsDistribute uniforms and collect all uniforms at the end of the seasonPrepares award lists and season recordsAttends all meetings where the program is involved and operates within the policies of the Marblehead School DistrictKeeps informed on current trends in the sport and participates in coaching training and clinicsMaintains active membership in related professional organizationsPrepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in an athletic contestMaintains a positive staff relationship with other coachesParticipate in Athletic Assembly, meet with parents to inform them about the program and its expectationsPromotes the high school Girls' Hockey program by encouraging participation of players of the upcoming seasonApply and enforce approved student discipline rules during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on tripsCollaborates with sport-specific booster organizationsPerform other duties as assigned by the Marblehead High School Athletic Director
