Cost Accountant

We are looking for an experienced on-site cost accountant to oversee and manage our product costs. This role is vital in ensuring that our cost structure remains competitive while supporting profitability and growth. The ideal candidate will have experience in cost accounting, budgeting, and process optimization in a manufacturing environment, or other relevant industry.

Essential Functions

• Manage costs for producing products, including raw material purchase prices, freight-in, tariffs, and bill of material routings for raw material consumption.
• Excel expert – understanding of databases and querying, as well as aggregating and summarizing large volumes of data
• ERP understanding – MRP and Item/BOM structures, Sage100 experience preferred
• Maintain item master - create new SKUs on-demand, validate BOM, routings, material costs, product line, and price code, and periodically review and inactivate non-moving SKUs
• Customer Pricing - maintain MSRP price list, maintain quote item numbers in item master, maintain customer discount tracking files, Set pricing for new products with input from product development team
• Review margins on Quotes, Sales Orders, and Shipments each month, Validate BOM and routings for anomalous items, flag abnormally low and high margins for management review
• Manufacturing KPI’s – maintain dashboard for operations
• Analyze COGS variances on Financial Statements, considering product mix implications and operational influences to explain anomalies
• Savings Program – implement and maintain tracking mechanism
• Cost Roll – complete annually, including calculation of Labor and Overhead (LOH) rates
• Review accuracy of routed operations, and update accordingly with time study data
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full Time Position / Must be on property during the “core” work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Minimal travel (less than 5%) is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, plus the equivalent of 2 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience

2. Ability to manage accelerated growth of the organization.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree in Accounting/Finance, plus the equivalent of 5 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience

CPA or CMA certification
