Job Title: Import Coordinator

This role is critical in supporting the company’s commitment to global trade compliance, ensuring smooth import operations, and mitigating risks associated with international trade.
Role Summary: The Import Coordinator will provide oversight for import trade compliance activities, ensuring alignment with U.S. and Canadian trade regulations, customs laws, and industry standards. This role will focus on developing and implementing strategies to maintain compliance, optimize import processes, and support supply chain efficiency for ocean and air freight channels.
Key areas of responsibility include import compliance management, process optimization for import operations, and collaboration with logistics, sourcing, legal, and operational teams to acquire import products efficiently and in line with US and Canadian regulations.

Essential Job Duties
- Ensure compliance with U.S. and Canadian trade regulations (U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canada Border Services Agency, EAR, etc.) and mitigate potential risks. and mitigate trade-related risks.
- Oversee import compliance for shipments from Asia and other regions to North America.
- Manage HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) classification processes, country of origin determinations, and duty rates per Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
- Manage HS (Harmonized System) classification processes, country of origin determination and duty rates per the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
- Work closely with logistics teams and partners to streamline import operations, focusing on cost savings, efficient customs clearance, and timely delivery.
- Develop and maintain regulatory-aligned procedures for import data management and record-keeping.
- Collaborate with freight forwarders, brokers, and suppliers to optimize shipping routes, transit times, and customs clearance processes.
- Conduct regular audits of import transactions to verify documentation accuracy and duty payments.
- Lead investigations and corrective actions for compliance issues; respond to government audits as required.
- Provide trade compliance training and support to internal teams, fostering a culture of compliance.
- Maintain accurate import records and prepare reports for senior management on compliance metrics and improvements.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field. Trade compliance certification (e.g., CCS, CUSECO) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in import trade compliance or customs brokerage, ideally within industrial distribution or manufacturing sectors.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian import regulations, HTS classification, and customs documentation.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficiency in trade compliance software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Adaptable to fast-paced environments, managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Passionate about continuous learning in trade regulations and global supply chain compliance.
- Strong business acumen.
