What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Specialist position at Marcone Supply?
The Product Specialist provides pre-sale support and after-sales support to customers and branch staff by researching specification material and recommending products for specific applications. Additional duties include producing quotations for assigned products, doing take-offs from blueprints for plan & spec jobs, interpreting specifications, configuring equipment, and providing design services for customers.
Essential Job Duties
Customer Interaction
Provides excellent customer service through timely customer interaction, problem resolution or escalation with effective and efficient follow-up.
Addresses customers politely and professionally in a courteous manner, even in situations that may become difficult or tense.
Promptly responds to customer inquiries via phone, email, or fax with courtesy in a professional demeanor.

Product
Provides pre-sale support for assigned products. Includes researching specification material and recommending products for specific application. Develop and use tools to help gather all relevant information needed to provide quotes.
Provides direction on quoting strategy consistent with organizational goals and guidelines.
Produces quotations for assigned products in a timely manner. Includes phone and e-mail requests from external and internal customers. Enters quotes using company enterprise software.
Configure equipment to meet job specifications using vendor software programs.
Provides submittal sheets, dimensional information, and technical information for equipment quoted.
Responsible for maintaining profit goals for assigned commercial products.
As needed, travels to job sites to provide design assistance, size products, and troubleshoot problems.
Assists with the development of selection guides, cheat sheets, cross reference material, and other tools to be used by staff to help make product selection and quote easier.
Recommends policy and procedure changes to supervisor to ensure consistent outcomes for quotes and load calculations.
Supports the product team in providing pre-sale support for assigned products, including researching specification material, and recommending products for specific applications. Assists with the development of tools to help gather relevant information needed to provide satisfactory quotes. As needed, produces quotations.
Reads blueprints for plan & spec jobs, interpreting specifications, as needed.
Assists with the configuration of equipment to meet job specifications using vendor software programs.
Monitors local and national codes to ensure that the company is stocking and quoting the correct products.
Maintains competitor price files. Uses this information to produce competitive price studies. Effectively leads vendor price negotiations on key commercial products.
Contributes quality articles for the company and customer newsletter.
General
Maintains a library of reference material relating to product information, specifications, installations, operations, and theory.
Processes orders including changing status, procuring products, producing sign-off sheets, lines up deliveries, and communicates with customers, branch delivery staff, and credit department.
Communicates with sales staff and/or customers for status reports on various jobs quotes. Communicates dealer issues with department Manager. Identify stocking issues with the department manager.
Recommends stocking and pricing strategy based on competitive market conditions and company profit goals.
Creates new part numbers and enters information into enterprise software.
Adheres to company guidelines and procedures for quoting and processing orders.
Provides customers with order status updates if/as required.
Assists in Customer Service and Warehouse with staging jobs to ensure appropriate equipment, components and accessories are all accounted for, bundled if needed and shipped as requested.
Other
Maintains proficiency with company computer systems in aspects related to job, such as data entry, messaging, call logs, data notations, queue updates, batching, or other job & office functions and requirements. Maintains proficiency in vendor computer systems.
Provides technical direction and oversight of customer pricing with approval from the assigned manager and leads on-going pricing maintenance activities.

Minimum Job Requirements
High School diploma or its GED equivalent
2 or more years’ experience with design, sales support, technical support, and blueprint reading or related functions.
Ability to read a set of mechanical blueprints and interpret information such as building materials, insulation factors, and dimensions.
Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Aptitude for mathematical operations and numerical analysis.
Use computers, photocopiers, scanners, phone systems and meeting and virtual platform sharing relative to the needs of the job.
Minimum Keyboarding Skills Of 40 Words Per Minute.
