Job Description: As a Retail Sales Associate, you play a crucial role in creating a positive customer experience while contributing to the overall success of our garden center. A Retail Sales Associate is often the last Marcum's Nursery employee to assist and thank our guests, so your level of service and attention to detail leave a lasting impression. A Retail Sales Associate must have excellent customer service skills, a genuine interest in horticulture, and be capable of standing on your feet for long periods.
Key Responsibilities: The Retail Sales Associate's primary responsibilities include performing tasks as directed by their manager which include but are not limited to:
- Providing superb customer service and helpful information and advice.
- Assisting guests with gardening questions and care.
- Informing guests of promotions, specials, upcoming events, newsletter, text club, etc.
- Preparing work orders at the time of checkout when guests require service or delivery.
- Scanning items at check out and ensuring pricing is correct.
- Knowing the pricing of unmarked plants (i.e. annuals).
- Taking payment for merchandise in the form of cash, credit card, check and/or gift card.
- Ensuring checks are written for the proper amount and gathering necessary information from the check writer.
- Assigning purchases to the correct customer account for the Marcums Nurserys Loyalty Program.
- Dispensing correct change.
- Keeping the checkout area clean and tidy.
- Maintaining retails space: re-stock, organize, set up and display retail materials.
- Bagging, boxing, or gift-wrapping merchandise as necessary.
- Answering the telephones and fielding questions or directing guests to another Marcums Nursery employee who can best serve them.
