Position Summary:
The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in analyzing costs for our landscaping projects, ensuring accurate billing, and providing financial insights to optimize our profitability. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with strong analytical skills and a background in cost accounting, ideally within the construction or service industries.
Key Responsibilities:
o Track and analyze all costs related to landscaping services, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead.
o Allocate costs to specific projects and ensure accurate documentation in the accounting system.
o Perform regular cost analysis to identify cost variances, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost optimization.
o Assist in determining and updating cost structures for different landscaping services offered.
o Provide detailed cost breakdowns and estimates for each landscaping project, ensuring that all direct and indirect costs are accounted for.
o Work with project managers to evaluate project profitability and make necessary adjustments to project costing.
o Monitor and report on cost performance against project budgets, highlighting any potential risks or discrepancies.
o Manage and oversee the billing process for landscaping services, ensuring that all invoices are accurate, timely, and in line with project contracts.
o Reconcile billing discrepancies and resolve any issues related to client invoices.
o Collaborate with project managers and other departments to develop project-specific budgets and forecasts.
o Assist in preparing reports for management to help make informed business decisions regarding pricing, billing, and cost management.
o Ensure that all financial transactions related to costs and billing are in compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a related field.
• Proven experience (2 years) in cost accounting or a similar role, ideally within the construction, landscaping, or service-based industries.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, costing methods, and billing processes.
• Experience with accounting software (e.g., Acumatica, Sage, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze complex financial data.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
• Ability to think critically, identify issues, and propose actionable solutions.
• Knowledge of project management principles and construction or service industry billing practices is a plus.
