About The Role

We are currently seeking an exceptional individual to join our growing team as a Senior Director of Publications and Scientific Communications. This is a critical role in shaping how the company’s R&D efforts are communicated internally and externally. They will oversee the company’s strategic communication plan of scientific data, research findings and developments, and ensure the science is communicated with high integrity, and in alignment with the company’s goals and mission.

This is a FTE position with a preference for candidates that can regularly work in the San Francisco-based office.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct development and implementation of the global publication strategies, including manuscripts, congress presentations, and other scientific/educational materials
  • Ensure publication plan and individual publications are aligned with internal communication strategies and company goals, and are relevant to the global medical and scientific communities
  • Drive cross-functional planning, reviewing, editing, and finalization of scientific publications and related materials, including reaching internal alignment and meeting projected timelines and budgets
  • Cross-functional management of internal teams, vendors, consultants, and thought leaders involved with publications
  • Collaborate with thought leaders and external experts to enhance scientific credibility and visibility
  • Individually contribute to writing, editing, and submission of scientific materials including slides and oral presentations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company standards
  • Develop, implement, and oversee stage-appropriate processes to facilitate publication-related activities and ensure high quality and compliant scientific publications and communications
  • Facilitate internal and external education on clinical and scientific data, equipping teams with tools to effectively communicate key findings
  • Anticipate, identify, and assist in the resolution of risks, bottlenecks, and potential issues in publication-related activities
  • Continually assess and plan for appropriate resourcing to meet approved publications initiatives and identify areas for improvement
  • Track and report on publication and communication deliverables, ensuring timely execution and alignment with strategic objectives
  • Provide regular updates to cross-functional and leadership teams to ensure alignment, resourcing, and tracking

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD) in a scientific discipline
  • 8-10 years in related positions in pharmaceuticals/biotechnology, with increasing responsibility which must include scientific communications and medical writing
  • Track record of shaping and driving ambitious publication strategies
  • Experience supporting publications and planning for a large, long-term studies; additional experience in rare disease is desirable
  • Proven track record in managing complex internal and external cross-functional teams and relationships, including internal team members, vendors, consultants, and thought leaders
  • Proven ability to interpret complex scientific and clinical data, and to shape audience-appropriate presentations of data in different formats
  • Thorough awareness of good publication practices and considerations
  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to be effective in communicating and interacting with a diverse group of people
  • Sound understanding of the drug development and global regulations and guidelines
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Exceptional time and project management skills, with the ability to execute on plans under pressure in a small, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • High integrity and sense of urgency, with a desire to individually contribute and lead
  • The ability to anticipate potential pitfalls and proactively solve problems
  • Highly motivated, proactive, enthusiastic and goal orientated.

Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of being at a stationary desk or work computer
  • Ability to occasionally adjust, handle, or move objects up to [50] pounds
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and/or thoroughness of the work assigned
  • Communicating with others to exchange information
  • Travel requirements as needed

Further information

Annual Salary Range: $215,000-$285,000

The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary.
