Margarita Adventures is the tourism arm of a small group of companies situated on Santa Margarita Ranch, located on California's central coast. The ranch is 14,000 acres! We offer a total of six ziplines, all linked together soaring over our majestic oak tree lined valleys amidst breathtaking views of Margarita Vineyards and the Santa Lucia Mountain Range.
Ranging in length from 500-2800 feet and in height from 20-160 feet, there is no shortage speed, fun and adventure!
Job Description:
Zipline Tour Guides are responsible for ensuring the safety of all Margarita Adventures guests, all while providing exceptional, above and beyond service and valuable insight on the history and inner workings of the broader Santa Margarita Ranch and its surrounding area.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Guiding guests throughout the zipline course both on foot, and with the use of company vehicles. Set up, tear down, and maintenance of all zipline gear and equipment. Guest assistance with proper harness and helmet fitting, sizing and wear. Guest training on proper ziplining techniques during launch, zip and landing. And most of all, providing each guest with fun and safe experience that they will remember and cherish for a lifetime.
Essential Duties and Functions:
- Daily setup and tear down of zipline course, prior to guest’s arrival and after the final tour of the day.
- Ensuring proper fit and wear of each guest’s harness, helmet and all additional safety gear.
- Ensuring proper set up and use of all line gear (lanyards, handles, trolleys and carabiners).
- Guiding each tour group through the zipline course safely and efficiently.
- Routine zipline retrievals and rescues.
- General gear and equipment inspections, upkeep and maintenance.
- Assistance with course maintenance; ziplines, roads, trails and course structures.
- Pre and on tour safety orientations and gear/equipment checks.
- Guest education of ranch and surrounding area including historical facts and local terrain, flora and fauna.
- Ensuring the safety and physical wellbeing of all guests while on tour.
- Establish a positive and friendly rapport with each tour group and guest; making yourself available to address any customer questions or concerns to provide the most impactful, memorable experience possible for all.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Candidates will be required to pass a paid 40-hour or more site-specific training course facilitated and offered through Margarita Adventures prior to becoming a guide.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all age groups to ensure the proper understanding of all course safety protocols.
- Must display an outgoing and friendly attitude both with guests and other employees to promote a positive work environment and memorable customer experience.
- Must have a great attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time both calmly and effectively.
- Must love working and being in the outdoors with the ability to stand and hike on a variety of terrain, in all weather conditions for an extended period of time.
- Must have the ability to effectively pull self and up to 275 lbs of additional weight along a zipline using upper body strength.
- Must have the ability to lift at least 50lbs.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Prior zipline, climbing, high ropes, or outdoor industry experience are a plus but not required. We will train the right candidate!
- Must be proficient in the English language, with the ability to converse in Spanish and other languages a plus.
Alcohol and Drug Testing:
- Guides may not arrive to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs (prescription or otherwise) and are forbidden to consume either or both during their shift or while on the premises. Due to the positions safety requirements, guides will be subject to a pre-employment drug screening and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Availability:
- Must be able to work at least 1 weekend day.
- Must be available to work early mornings, weekends and holidays.
