Duties and Responsibilities :
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct the facility infection control program in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern such requirements in the long-term care facility.
Ensure that the facility is in compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection control and standard precautions.
Make rounds to nursing units for the purpose of case findings, review of environmental sanitation procedures and supervision of infection control practices by facility personnel.
Prepare monthly summaries of all resident / personnel infections, corrective actions taken, and the results of corrective action. Submit copies to the Director of Nursing.
Prepare summaries of special investigations on the occurrence of nosocomial and community-acquired infections.
Participate in facility surveys.
Assist in the development and implementation of a facility-wide TB management control program.
Report all reportable diseases to the county and state health departments.
Plan, develop, direct, evaluate and coordinate educational and on-the-job training programs.
Secure, develop and maintain records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials pertinent to in-service programs.
Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, class attendance and subject records.
Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program.
Participate in professional activities and programs to assure that you are current on regulations and guidelines, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to supervisor.
Develop and participate in the planning, conducting and scheduling of orientation programs that ensure newly hired employees know their responsibilities, the facility’s policies and procedures, and long-term care regulations.
Assist personnel in obtaining in-service training to keep credentials current in accordance with state law (RN, LPN, CNA). Provide in-service training as required.
Assist the Administrator / designee in developing, conducting, and maintaining conditions of approval for Nurse Aide Certification programs.
Ensure that all personnel attend mandatory in-service topics annually as outlined in the facility’s policies and procedures.
Education
Must possess a Registered Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
Infection control certification preferred.
Experience
Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
Minimum, two (2) years' experience in a nursing care facility.
