Safety Manager
Job Summary:
The Safety Manager is responsible for providing safety leadership to all employees, ensuring compliance with Company safety standards, implementing safety directives, improving Company safety performance, and ensuring that all Company safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness and improve safe work practices.
Facilitate a work environment that supports a safe culture.
Coordinate and/or conduct employee training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, safe work habits, and the use of safety equipment.
Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Investigate accidents, near-miss incidents and injuries to determine causes and install preventive measures.
Provide coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
Coordinate employee safety programs to determine their adequacy including review of short and long term strategic safety planning and development.
Maintain employee safety files.
Order and maintain safety supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Supervision Received:
Works with minimal level of supervision. Issues and concerns need to be communicated to Plant Management.
Authority and Accountability:
Authority to shut down operations in the event that the safety of employees is in jeopardy. Accountable to the Plant Manager and Company President for maintaining a safe work environment and implementation and maintenance of a safe work culture and for the timeliness and quality of work performed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to build trust and confidence with all employees.
Strategic thinking and leadership skills.
Ability to communicate with employees at all levels.
Consultation skills.
Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations (OSHA).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Read, write and communicate using English language.
Bi-lingual – English and Spanish preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
Lifting:
20 pounds maximum lifted. Lowest point - 0 feet, Highest point – 4 feet. Frequency: 1 hours total per 8 hour shift. Object lifted: Safety Supplies.
Carrying:
20 pounds maximum carried. Maximum distance carried: 25 feet. Object carried: Safety Supplies.
Climbing:
Ability to climb stairs required.
