Position Summary:

The Student Payment Specialist supports the day-to-day operations of the student accounts receivable area by proactively coordinating student payments and will report to the Director of Student Accounts. This position will greet student and family visitors to the Student Financial Services Office and discuss any and all financial services topics. This includes receiving and processing payments, assisting with payment plans, third party payers, and taking proactive steps to collect receivables.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Receive in person customers, emails, and phone calls to Student Financial Services, providing information related to student payment and refer non-routine inquiries to the appropriate staff member
  • Responsible for Accounts Receivable account collections
  • Verify accuracy of accounts receivable data and resolve discrepancies
  • Advise students and families of financial obligations and available payment methods
  • Monitor past due accounts and contact students to inquire about payment status
  • Run the disbursement and anticipated aid processes to apply funds to student accounts
  • Maintain student confidentiality and follow all FERPA guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff within the Student Financial Services Office and across the College
  • Participate in all required and assigned training
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail when performing all tasks
  • This position will be in person and may require some nights and weekends.

· Ability to calculate and interpret financial aid and student bills accurately

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a customer service oriented environment

· Effective communication, both oral and written

· Proficiency with Microsoft Suite

· Ability to prioritize time, multitask, and problem solve

· Genuine interest in helping students achieve their educational goals

Education and Experience:

Associates degree from an accredited institution required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Demonstrable work experience in accounts receivable collection or payment processing required, preference for experience in an educational setting. Experience in Jenzabar student information software preferred.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Salary: $60,405.80/year
