Nursing Assistants will demonstrate skills necessary to perform duties and most importantly and understanding of the needs of the elderly. JOB DESCRIPTION
CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA) – ASSISTED LIVING
Supervision and Direction:
The Certified Nursing Assistant receives general supervision and direction from the Assisted Living Charge Nurse/Unit Coordinator. The Certified Nursing Assistant will comply with established policies and operational procedures. In the absence of the Assisted Living Charge Nurse/Unit Coordinator, the Certified Nursing Assistant will accept advice and instruction from the Director of Nursing or his/her designee.
Educational Requirements:
CNA
This position requires the candidate be a graduate of a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia and to have successfully passed the competency evaluation program. The candidate must be listed in good standing with the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Health Professionals. Must possess:
- Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a C.N.A. in this state.
- Current CPR and First Aide certification, or acquire certification within 60 days of hire.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for the implementation of health related programs, services and activities which promote, enhance and maintain resident health and independence. He/she is responsible for implementing health related procedures and records in conformance with the orders of the Director of Nursing Services or his/her designee, the Assisted Living Charge Nurse/Unit Coordinator, the residents' physicians as well as the facility's licensing agencies.
Specifically, the Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Implements service plans for each resident consistent with his/her needs and in concert with the residents' physician orders.
- Reports daily to the Assisted Living Charge Nurse/Unit Coordinator on the general health and welfare of the residents and maintains the proper and appropriate records.
- Reports to Assisted Living Charge Nurse/Unit Coordinator residents needing assistance with various activities of daily living, medication, transportation to meals and activities or any other need once known to them.
- Provides supervision and assistance to those residents who require assistance with personal hygiene including bathing, care of the body, mouth, teeth, dentures, fingernails, toenails (reports problems to Assisted Living Charge Nurse/Unit Coordinator for podiatrist services), hair, beard and mustache. Takes and records vital signs and reports as assigned. Assists residents to maintain neat and clean living quarters.
- In absence of the Assisted Living Charge Nurse/Unit Coordinator, coordinates physician visits, special diet and tray service requests, overnight visitations, sign-out by residents, home health visits, health programming and classes.
- Records all resident services rendered periodically during shift onto computer.
- Performs shift assignments (for each resident) as designated. Reports all uncompleted or additional assignments to supervisor.
- Follows company polices and procedures in regard to records, charts and reports.
- Strictly adheres to the facility's system of medication administration and documentation after successfully completing an approved medication administration program and the facility’s medication examination.
- Participates in in-service training as required to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assists in the implementation of health related programming for facility residents and those of the larger community. Participates in and conducts resident activities (group and one on one) as assigned.
- Assists residents in dining room during meals as needed.
- Complies with personnel policies and procedures including uniform/dress code policy.
- Observes and protects residents’ rights including rights to confidentiality, privacy and dignity.
- Practices safety procedures and complies with established reporting of accidents and injuries.
- Maintains awareness of all emergency plans and procedures.
- Performs any other related duties that may be assigned.'
