Job Overview
As the leader of the accounting team, the Controller at Drost will closely monitor the company’s financial health by ensuring timely and accurate financial statements that represent the company’s performance. This position is responsible for ensuring cash receipts and disbursements are accurate, timely and adequate to cover the requirements of the company. This person will create, maintain, manage, and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts in accordance with GAAP.

Job Overview
As the leader of the accounting team, the Controller at Drost will closely monitor the company’s financial health by ensuring timely and accurate financial statements that represent the company’s performance. This position is responsible for ensuring cash receipts and disbursements are accurate, timely and adequate to cover the requirements of the company. This person will create, maintain, manage, and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts in accordance with GAAP.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Lead, manage, and develop accounting staff, ensuring that work is properly allocated and completed promptly and accurately. This includes the accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, journal entries, and reconciliations functions.
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP ensuring that deadlines are met. Doing comparative analysis on financial statements and explaining material variances.
- Create, maintain and update annual budgets, monthly/quarterly forecasts and ad hoc projections in collaboration with management team.
- Reconcile the company’s bank statements and balance sheet accounts.
- Collaborate with the other managers to support overall goals and objectives.
- Utilize the accounting and operational software to enter/update information to ensure financial records are complete and accurate.
- Ensure compliance and proper reporting of local and state sales tax.
- Provide daily/weekly/monthly reporting of cash flows, job performance and reporting of key performance indicators.
- Coordinate company implementations of various corporate financial systems.
- Assist regional and national accounting teams in the annual audit by providing work papers, reviewing transactions, and reconciling accounts.
- Calculate annual commissions/bonuses.
- Respond to inquiries from the management team regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience (landscaping or construction industry preferred) or an equivalent mix of education and accounting experience.
- Experience with accounting software (NetSuite preferred but not required).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Time management, creative problem solving, organization, close attention to numeric details and customer service skills/experience required.
