What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietary Aide position at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center?
JOB SUMMARY
The Dietary Aide shall be responsible for ensuring the nutritional needs of residents are met in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the facility. Also, the Dietary Aide assists in the preparation and serving of meals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Prepare residents trays by placing correct desserts according to menu and residents preference.
· Prepare residents trays by placing on them such items as: silver, juice, sugar, creamer, milk, and butter according to diet ordered on card.
· Examine filled trays for completeness and place in carts.
· Deliver residents trays to proper halls.
· Know correct way to call out resident’s cards and follow thru. (Ex. residents name, type of diet, type of meat, and dislikes of foods and beverage).
· Prepare and dip up correct amount of desserts according to menu and production sheet.
· Be able to work all dietary aid positions in case of emergencies.
· Assist in dish room by doing all positions.
· Clean up dish room after each meal by sweeping and mopping.
· Clean work areas, tables, cabinets, and floors.
· Clean coffee machines.
· Clean food carts after each meal.
· Collect and carry trash and garbage to designated area.
· Clean refrigerators and freezers according to cleaning schedule.
· Take daily temperatures of coolers, to include: juice refrigerator, milk refrigerator, salad bar, serving line, ice cream freezer, walk-in cooler, and dish machine.
· Prepare and deliver juices and food supplements for residents as needed.
· Assist in cleaning of dining room, to include: restock condiments, tables, napkin holders, coffee machines and pots, dining room serving line, and emptying and cleaning trash cans and covers.
· Collect all residents’ trays and carts from halls.
· Organize and set up resident’s diet cards before serving time.
· Keep residents diet cards clean by washing and sanitizing with warm soapy water and cloth.
· Assist in cleaning walk-in cooler.
· Assist with putting away stock when necessary.
· Assist with organization of store rooms by writing down what you take out and keeping stock in place. (Ex. If you drop something on the floor, pick it up and put it in the correct place).
· Clean hand washing sink in dish room daily.
· Clean dish machine daily and de-lime as needed.
· Soak and de-stain dishes and cups three times a week.
· Assist cooks and supervisors in setting up for special events.
· Assist in the case of disaster to carry on dietary duties.
· Clean all equipment according to cleaning schedule.
· Maintain competence through attendance and participation in continuing education programs.
· Understand and follow universal precautions, established safety rules, fire and disaster procedures, and departmental policies and procedures while performing daily tasks.
· Ensure that the department and equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
· Perform any other work-related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Preferred experience or training in a dietary department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret written directives and follow instructions.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships and communication with residents, public and staff.
- Ability to assess needs and prioritize them.
- Must have patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward residents.
- Ability to perform light to heavy manual work.
- Ability to operate blenders and other equipment.
Special Requirements:
· Level 2 Background screening required.
· Ability to adjust to emergency situations.
· Hair must be covered at all times.
· No large jewelry to include large earrings.
· No long nails or nail polish.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The following physical abilities are required:
· Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 or more pounds.
· Occasional pushing & pulling of up to 20 or more pounds.
· Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, reaching above shoulders, reaching outward, handling, fingering, standing, & walking.

· Visual Acuity: With or without correction. Have close visual acuity to perform and activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing computer monitor and reading; determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations.
· Walking: Ability to stand for a prolonged period of time. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday to accomplish tasks.
· Ability to tolerate extremes in temperature; both hot and cold.
