Duties
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations and assessments to determine the severity and nature of substance abuse issues in patients
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment results and collaborate with patients to set achievable goals
- Provide counseling and therapy sessions to individuals and groups using evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary
- Educate patients on the effects of substance abuse, the benefits of recovery, and strategies for relapse prevention
- Assist patients in developing coping skills and healthy behaviors to support long-term recovery
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical documentation, including patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as social workers and medical doctors, to provide comprehensive care for patients
- Collect data on patient outcomes and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance treatment effectiveness
Skills
- Knowledgeable about different substances of abuse, their effects on the body, and appropriate treatment approaches
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to substance abuse disorders and mental health conditions
- Skilled in conducting diagnostic evaluations and assessments to determine appropriate treatment interventions
- Ability to effectively use motivational interviewing techniques to engage patients in the recovery process
- Knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy principles and techniques for addressing maladaptive behaviors and thought patterns
- Competent in conducting patient assessments to identify co-occurring mental health disorders or underlying issues contributing to substance abuse
- Strong attention to detail for maintaining accurate medical documentation and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards
